El Yunque

On Monday February 13, 2012, we booked a tour to take a hike through the El Yunque National Forest.  It’s the only tropical rainforest in the entire US National Forest System and the scenery was breathtaking (and so was the sometimes-strenuous hike to the falls)!  I especially loved all of the crazy vines that hung from the trees.

If you’re interested, more on the rainforest over at Wikipedia

La Mina Falls

Yes, we went swimming in the ‘pool’ below the falls.  Yes, the water pelted our heads like a fire hose.  And yes, it was pretty chilly!  But after a fairly challenging hike (read: sweaty), it felt awesome!  The waterproof camera was the best investment we made…

Mmmm… A roadside-stand Pina Colada is the perfect way to top off a morning of hiking through the mountains and climbing observation towers!
